What kind of foundation is your life built on? Are you solid in your beliefs? Are you 100% confident of your foundation? What if calamity stuck you today? Are you as prepared as you should be or are you a bit distracted by the details of life? Are you consumed with life? If you pay attention to the advertisements beamed at you on TV and the Internet, you’ll be drawn into the need for a new car, a new phone, maybe a new job. If you watch home TV shows you might be ready to tear down your existing home and replace it with a new one – just because it no longer suits your needs (or desires).
The story is told of a man who had great prosperity so much so that he was intent on replacing all his OLD with brand NEW. His mind marveled at what he had accumulated, how rich he was, how successful he was. That was his opinion, reality was much different – that very night his life would come to an end. So is the account given in the Bible (Luke 12:13-21). Do you pay much attention to what the Bible has to say…to you? You might just want to.
Everyone who hears what God has to say – in His word – is considered WISE, but only if he acts on those words. The wise man builds on a solid [rock] foundation. The foolish man builds on a weak [sand] foundation.[1] So, where does your life sit? Are you in the wise camp or the foolish camp? Just what foundation is your life built on? Have you considered the claims of God’s word on your life?
Have you acted on those words? Let’s look – –
John 3:16-18 “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life. 17 For God did not send the Son into the world to judge the world, but that the world might be saved through Him. 18 He who believes in Him is not judged; he who does not believe has been judged already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.”
John 3:36 “He who believes in the Son has eternal life; but he who does not obey the Son will not see life, but the wrath of God abides on him.”
Just this past week the world witnessed the devastation surrounding a building collapse in south Florida and the many lives lost. I dare say that no one went to bed that night thinking it would be their last on this earth. Much attention now is focused on the “foundation” of the building. I point, more importantly, to the foundation of those entering the building that particular night. What were their foundation plans regarding where they would spend eternity? Life offers no “do-overs”. We only go this way ONCE. Better make the right decision!
So, is your life founded on the solid foundation of Jesus Christ or the flimsy foundation of what the world has to offer? The choice is yours!
“He is no fool who gives what he cannot keep to gain that which he cannot lose.” [2]
